Many people test their CPS for months, see their score stall at the same number, and conclude they've "hit their ceiling."
But there's a possibility that gets overlooked: you've been testing with the wrong duration all along, so your data never reflected your real level.
A Common Scenario Say you normally use the 10-second test and hold steady at 7 CPS. One day you switch to the 1-second test, hit 10 CPS, and start using that instead — feeling like you've improved.
That conclusion is wrong.
The 10 CPS from a 1-second test and the 7 CPS from a 10-second test aren't a "better" and "worse" version of the same thing — they're two different metrics. The first measures your peak output at your limit; the second measures the rhythm you can sustain. You just switched rulers — you didn't get faster.

One Practical Suggestion If you've been testing for a while but your score has plateaued, do one thing first: on the same device and in the same posture, run all three durations five times each.
Then compare the three medians. If your 1-second score is clearly higher than your 5-second and 10-second results, your problem is sustainment, not peak speed. If all three are close together, your bottleneck may be your device or posture rather than your training volume.
This diagnostic process is far more useful than simply "practising more," because it tells you which direction to train in.
One Honest Reminder The test pages themselves state it: don't treat the result as a laboratory measurement. Monitor refresh rate, mouse hardware, and browser load all affect timing precision.
So the reliable approach is to fix one setup, test repeatedly, and watch the long-term trend. To run a full diagnostic, start with these three durations: 1 second for peak, 5 seconds for baseline, and 10 seconds for sustainment. Only when the three numbers sit side by side does the real problem become clear.
